Nonsemble Concert with Jo Davie and Monique Clare

A week ago today my band Nonsemble had the absolute pleasure of performing with two of our good friends, both incredible songwriters and captivating performers, Jo Davie and Monique Clare.

It was a really special show and featured Nonsemble collaborating on some of Jo and Monique’s original songs, as well as a few Nonsemble classics and covers.

Here’s some of the info from the program:

Jo Davie is an Australian vocalist, composer and researcher currently working on her PhD through UQ School of Music. Jo joins us for three songs - a new Nonsemble arrangement for her song “The Window”, a post-minimalist reinterpretation of indie-folk classic “Flume” by Bon Iver, and “Unkind” from Nonsemble’s 2016 song cycle, Spaceship Earth.

Monique Clare is a songwriter, cellist, and vocalist whose indie-folk laced with chamber pop has earned her multiple awards, international residencies, and high critical praise. Monique joins Nonsemble on cello throughout the concert, and will also perform her 2023 QMA Award-winning song “Downhill Skiing”.

Nonsemble will also perform their recent QMA Finalist track Argentavis, from last year’s Archaeopteryx - an album inspired by giant prehistoric birds. The concert will open with an old favourite from our very beginnings, Practical Mechanics Movement III: Hovercraft.

The Setlist:

  • Practical Mechanics Movement III: Hovercraft, Transport of the Future

  • Argentavis

  • Downhill Skiing (by and featuring Monique Clare)

  • Unkind (featuring Jo Davie)

  • Flume (Bon Iver cover featuring Jo Davie)

  • The Window (by and featuring Jo Davie)
