QMA Award Finalist: Nonsemble’s “Argentavis”

Still having some trouble believing the amazing news that Nonsemble is up for a Queensland Music Award in the “Contemporary Classical” category for our song, Argentavis!

Also amazing related news: Libby Myers has come in Highly Commended in the same category for her recording of my piece “I Felt Unfettered and Alive”!

We share the honour with some pretty incredible artists who are also highly deserving of the prize. Camerata - Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra is nominated for Katherine Philp’s beautiful composition in collaboration with Tenzin Choegyal, “Dolma”. Also the amazing Monique Clare is up for “Downhill Skiing”, which is just one track from a whole album of incredible creative music that Monique released last year. Tristan Barton’s “In Time” is also up, which is a stunningly textured and moving composition from the talented and prolific Yorta Yorta composer.

The awards are held on Tuesday 28 March, at Fortitude Music Hall. And while I’ll certainly be cheering loudly for all the musicians who’ve been fortunate to catch the eyes and ears of the awards panels, I’ll also be thinking about the wealth of incredibly talented and creative music-makers in this state who - for whatever reason - don’t get a look in at events like this. Amazing music is being made all around us, every day!
