November Music Mailout

The Long-Awaited (by no-one) November 2025 issue of my email blasts, which are supposed to be monthly but occasionally drift toward biennially…

Hey gang!

Sure has been a while since transmissions. I hope you’re all sailing raucously (but safely) over the waves of life which roll and crash differently for all of us.

I’ve included a few music updates below, the first of which is a favour I’d like to ask of you...

/ Make a Modern Mantra For Me
// Courtenay Cleary Releases Cycles
/// Drone Prompts II
//// Practical Mechanics US Premiere

/ MAKE A MODERN MANTRA FOR ME
I’m writing a piece currently for my dear friend Kieran Welch, working with the title “Modern Mantras”. The world is so weird at the moment, and I’m interested in what keeps people on track. So I’m looking for your little axioms or personal affirmations that help you navigate each day in an age of war, machine learning, climate catastrophe, misinformation, ultra-polarisation, wealth inequality, etc... If you have any ‘modern mantras’ that you’re willing to contribute, please record them as a voice memo and submit them here

There are options on the form to tell me if you want to be credited or remain anonymous, and to add your details to make sure you get a copy of the final product.

// COURTENAY CLEARY RELEASES CYCLES
My friend the amazing Courtenay Cleary has released a wonderful solo EP, Reminiscence. It features compositions from Connor D’Netto and Stephen Chin, and closes with a little one by me.

You can listen here. Courtenay's playing is just insanely stunning, treat yourself.

/// DRONE PROMPTS II
Keep your eyes out for a new release from the wonderful 4000 Records: the second installation of Drone Prompts, a collaborative release from vintage credenza (John Russell) and friends.

"In this unique project, a simple drone/soundscape - created by Russell - is shared with a talented Meanjin friend, who then transforms the initial sonic prompt into a distinctive new piece"

I’m very honoured to be included amongst the friends contributing to Drone Prompts II! Follow 4000 Records on Bandcamp to get updates about it.

//// PRACTICAL MECHANICS US PREMIERE
A composition that I wrote as part of my PhD, which was also the initial impetus for the formation of Nonsemble, had its US premiere a few weeks ago. Edge Ensemble, based in Shenandoah Conservatory, brought this old piece to life beautifully, and you can check their performance out on YouTube if you’re interested.

Huge thanks to Edge Ensemble for taking on this rickety and cantankerous old piece, they really gave it a new life!

As usual, if emails from me are not a net positive in your life, just hit me with unsubscribe and I’ll delete you from the list faster than you can say “honestly who has time to keep up with everyone else’s passion projects in this day and age!?!?”

Thanks and all the best to you and your fam.

C.
